about us
Dirty Laundry
Dirty Laundry Theatre (DLT) is a NYC based theatre production company, seeking to create unique connection between specific cultural stories and the universal audience.
The company develops, produces and presents brave and compelling Israeli plays, bringing the complex human narrative, which are often ignored in dominant culture, to the forefront.
Since foundation in 2018 the company has been nominated for Best Play by the NY Theater Festival, acknowledged by TimeOut NY as ‘Best Theatre to watch online’ and brought the first Israeli LGBTQ+ plays to the stages at Stonewall Inn and the universities of Tennessee and Texas A&M.
In 2020 DLT partnered with The Stonewall Inn and MusikTalks, leading the production of REFRACTIONS OF PRIDE an online live-streamed festival of theatre, music and dance, raising over $3,000 to support The Ali Forney Center’s work and save LGBTQ+ youth from homelessness.
As part of its mission, the company dedicates a percentage of its productions’ proceeds to underprivileged communities in NYC as a regular practice.
What DLT Means
“Dirty laundry” is something that everyone has, across all cultures, races and continents, from the moment we are born, through the rest of our lives. It represents topics and angles in life that most of us consider private and will not share in public to maintain our perceived dignity. However, this is exactly the common ground where we can all meet to find that, although we have different ways to “wash” our laundry, our differences are not that big and we’re all dealing with the same “dirt” throughout our lives.
we start with Israel
Airing Israeli “dirty laundry”, beyond the immediately recognizable Middle Eastern conflict, allows us to create a greater mosaic of the little-known and unseen perspectives of day-to-day Israeli life in order to overcome cultural differences and prejudice.
These Israeli stories are as personally relatable as they are global. As a member of our audience, we invite you to open your mind and heart, and experience a new narrative that might be more familiar to you than you expect.
Our Core Values
DIVERSE
We commit to produce familiar and lesser-known plays and musicals of different cultures, and make it important to keep our cast and crew as diverse as possible.
ACCESIBLE
We commit to make our shows accessible to all communities, and make Ma’aser [Tithe] and giveaway 10% of our productions’ proceeds to underprivileged communities in NYC
FAIR
We commit to always include monetary payment in our collaboration agreements- We share the passion of making art and the struggle of paying NYC bills, and commit to share the burden with our productions creative and technical crew.
